Johnny Depp to Join Angelina Jolie in Film

Johnny Depp may be replacing Sam Worthington in a new film with Angelina Jolie.

Depp is currently in negotiations to star opposite Jolie in The Tourist, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project is a remake of the French film Anthony Zimmer, which starred Yvan Attal and Sophie Marceau in 2005.  Depp would play an American tourist being used by an Interpol agent (Jolie) to end her affair with a criminal.

The film has undergone some tough times since it was first given the green light. Sam Worthington abandoned the project over creative differences.  He was then replaced by Tom Cruise, who backed out in order to star in Knight & Day with Cameron Diaz.  Jolie is replacing Charlize Theron, who was originally cast as the female agent.

Bharat Nalluri was first set to direct The Tourist, but was later replaced by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who also backed out.  Now, it seems that Alfonso Cuarón (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) will be behind the camera.

Provided that the cast and crew are set, filming should begin in February.

In the meantime, we can see Johnny Depp in the film Alice in Wonderland, which opens on March 5, 2010, and is directed by Tim Burton.
