Johnny Depp to play Dr. Seuss?

Actor producing film about bestselling children’s author Theodor Seuss Geisel.

Film star Johnny Depp is associated with a film project about the life of bestselling children’s author and illustrator Dr. Seuss, aka Theodor Seuss Geisel, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Depp will produce the project and may star in the lead role. Keith Bunin (In Treatment) has been hired to write the screenplay.

Born in 1904, Geisel, worked in advertising, and created political cartoons during the time leading up to World War II. After the war he became a successful author around the world, and has sold over 200 million books in his lifetime. He died in 1991.

Depp is no stranger to playing authors having taken on roles of J.M. Barrie in Finding Neverland, and Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. He is currently filming a remake of the gothic TV soap opera Dark Shadows, due out May 11, 2012.
