The actor has landed a role in the film Gunslinger, reports Variety.
The story is set in a not so distant future, in a snowy, post-apocalyptic America. Hartnett will play a man who, along with his brother, tries to destroy the gang responsible for murdering their parents.
The film will be directed by Chris Nahon (Blood: The Last Vampire), and filming is set to begin in early 2010 in Canada.
In the meantime, we will next see Josh Hartnett in the films Bunkaru and End Zone, which do not currently have confirmed opening dates.
