Joshua Roy would like to become a player like John Tavares

Last night, Joshua Roy was on the show L’Antichambre where he answered many questions from the panelists.

Quebec forward notably made an interesting statement when he was asked which player he aspired to be. Here is his response:

« I think I would go with a John Tavares, you know he’s a guy who has good hockey sense, not necessarily the fastest, you know I think we still have two styles of play that are similar. He has a great career too, so it’s sure that if I’m able to do what he does, I’ll be very… very happy. »

As CH fans, we can only hope that Roy reaches that level of play one day.

However, for that to happen, he would need to start bringing the same kind of offensive contribution in the NHL as in the American League, where the young player has forged a career as a scorer.

Before his recall, Roy was the top scorer for the Laval Rocket with 20 goals and 35 points in 46 games.

However, the Quebecer is still waiting to score his first point this year in seven games with the Canadiens. He had 9 points, including 4 goals, in 23 games in the NHL before this season.

This should not be long in coming since the forward has had a few good opportunities and the CH has made sure to put him in a favorable offensive context by playing him on the second line with Alex Newhook and Patrik Laine.

In addition, even if the points are not yet there, Roy is playing effective hockey by avoiding getting into trouble while gaining experience in the National League.

Also questioned about the adaptation between leagues and the difference in playing systems between the Canadiens and the Rocket, the forward appreciates the similarity between the two teams which facilitates his transition.

Can Roy impress the CH management enough to secure a regular spot with the team by the end of the season and especially next year?

For now, with Kirby’s absence for the rest of the season, the ball is in his court and it’s up to him to show that he is indispensable to the club.

And a good way to do that is to regularly fill the score sheet.
