Journey to receive Billboard Legend of Live award
Billboard magazine has announced that San Francisco-based band Journey is the winner of the 2011 ‘Legend of Live’ touring award.
Formed in 1973, the group has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity thanks to the hit TV series Glee, which covered Journey’s 1981 hit song Don’t Stop Believin’ as its first single in 2009. The song has since sold more than half a million copies.
Journey will receive the award on November 10 at the Billboard Touring Awards in New York. The award honors groups or individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to live music and the touring business.
The ceremony also acknowledges the recipients’ commitment to the art of performing live and reaching fans through the concert experience. Journey founder Neal Schon will travel to New York to receive the award on behalf of his colleagues.
Last year, the award went to Canadian band Rush, who succeeded 2009 winner, Ozzy Osbourne.
