Justin Bieber, Hedley and Drake, kings of the MMVAs
Unknown just a year ago, Justin Bieber is now an international star. The Stratford, Ontario native won three awards last night (June 20) at the Much Music Video Awards held by the music television network in downtown Toronto.
Bieber came out the winner in three of the most popular categories, Best International Video by a Canadian for the song One Time, Video of the Year for Baby and Artist of the Year. Three nominations, three awards, not a bad night for Bieber.
While accepting his first award, the young singer said, "Coming from a small town in Canada – repping (representing) Stratford, Ontario – I just wanna say, this means the world to me. It’s my first award, and to have it in Canada is just amazing. I want to say thank you to all my fans who got me in this position."
The group Hedley also had a good night, picking up three awards. They won Video of the Year and Postproduction of the Year for Perfect as well as Pop Video of the Year for Cha-Ching.
Newcomer Drake was nominated in seven categories and walked away with two wins. He received awards for Cinematography and Hip Hop Video of the Year for the song Successful.
