Kanye West and Lady Gaga are MTV’s Man and Woman of the Year

Kanye’s comeback and Gaga’s good works earn the superstars MTV’s number one spot.

Kanye West and Lady Gaga have been named Man and Woman of the Year for 2010 by MTV News.

MTV bestowed the honour upon Kanye for his brilliant comeback after 2009’s infamous debacle when he stormed the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards and cut short Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. After all but disappearing from the public eye, West released his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, in November to much critical acclaim.

Even without a new album in 2010, Lady Gaga held onto her crown for a second consecutive year. Because of her continued touring and cutting edge music videos, the performer remained in the spotlight without needing new hits. This, coupled with her fearless philanthropic work for gay rights, earned her the title from MTV News.

Eminem and Katy Perry were runners up for Man and Woman of the Year, and Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift took third place.
