Kanye West gets his own musical

Kanye: the Musical debuts next month in Australia.

Rapper Kanye West is getting his own musical – the Gold Digger performer will be the subject of a new stage production, Kanye: the Musical, at the University of Sydney in Australia.

The hour-long musical is a two-man show, telling West’s story from his "humble beginnings writing beats for Jay-Z to the top of the pops remixing Daft Punk."

Phillip Roser, a senior at the university, will play West himself, while alum Damien Higginbotham will play the other roles, which include West’s mother, fashion designer Marc Jacobs and even a curious-sounding ‘Spooky Dracula.’

"This is a story of a struggle against the man to become the man. It’s about a guy who took a shot at the throne and didn’t miss. This is the tale of Kanye," says the production’s official Facebook page.

"I’m a big Kanye fan," Roser told the LA Times. "I thought that a musical in his honor would be a lot of fun to put on. I really just meant the show to be something fun for my friends to see and I’m pretty excited by all the attention it’s been getting."

The play runs September 5 to 7 at the university’s Cellar Theatre. Tickets range from about $3 to $6.
