Kanye West has finished his penance
When Kanye West acted on impulse at the MTV Video Music Awards last year and interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, he received a flurry of criticism and backlash in response. Even Barack Obama made a rather non-presidential comment when asked what he thought of the incident.
Now that the dust has settled, West is ready to step back into the spotlight. The first single off his new album, Power, was leaked online so one and all can hear what he has to say.
He attacks, among others, the entire cast of Saturday Night Live who made lots of fun of him last year. He doesn’t mince words by inviting them to kiss his royal a**.
The song starts out with Kanye West describing himself as a 21st century man who is making a difference and doing it better than anyone else. It’s easy to see that he didn’t lose touch with his inflated ego during that self-imposed exile.
He gives shout outs to other artists like Drake, Lil Wayne and, above all, Jay-Z who he acknowledges has become a rap legend. He also says he is ready to prove he is better than the rest.
The track runs six minutes and samples the song 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson from 1969.
The drums are very aggressive just like Kanye West’s tone and lyrics. There could very well be an explicit language warning on his next album.
