Kanye West Slapped with a Lawsuit

Kanye West is being sued for using Joe Farrell’s music without permission.

Singer Kanye West and his record company are being sued by Kathleen Firrantello, the American jazz musician Joe Farrell’s daughter, who is accusing West of using part of her father’s music without permission, reports FemaleFirst.

Rappers Method Man, Redman and Common and their record companies are also named in the lawsuit filed at the US District Court in New York.

Firrantello accuses the rappers of having used part of Joe Farrell’s 1974 composition, Upon This Rock. West allegedly sampled Farrell’s work in the song Gone, Common in Chi-City, and Method Man and Redman in Cover.

The record companies being sued are Roc-A-Fella Records, Interscope Records, Geffen Records and A&M Records.

Farrell’s daughter is asking for $1 million US in compensation, and wants the artists to stop performing and selling the songs.
