Kate Winslet on the Small Screen

Kate Winslet is the top choice to play the lead role in the miniseries Mildred Pierce.

Winslet may be trying her luck on the small screen. According to Variety, the Oscar-winning actress is set to take the lead in the miniseries Mildred Pierce, which will be directed by Todd Haynes.

The HBO network is working on acquiring the rights to air the show. Mildred Pierce is an adaptation of the 1941 novel by American author James M. Cain.

The story follows the life of a middle-class mother in Los Angeles in the 1930s. She struggles between meeting her children’s needs and maintaining her social status during the times of the Great Depression. This predicament ends up steering her towards crime.

Mildred Pierce was also adapted to the big screen in 1945. The film was directed by Michael Cutiz, and allowed Joan Crawford to win an Oscar for best actress.
