The actress accepted $40,000 US in damages and interest for defamation, following a statement the Daily Mail made, claiming that she lied about her diet and exercise routine, reports BBC News.
The settlement was reached by London’s Supreme Court, although Winslet was not present for the trial.
Last May, the 34-year-old star filed suit against the tabloid and stated that she was "distressed and embarrassed" by the article.
Several months later, the star declared, "I am delighted that the Mail have apologised for making false allegations about me. I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise."
Furthermore, she strongly believes that women should be encouraged to except themselves as they are, and explained that the accusations have tarnished her personal and professional reputation.
