Kate’s Oscar stays in the loo

Kate Winslet keeps her Oscar in a private place.

Actress Kate Winslet won a Best Actress Oscar last year for her performance in the Nazi war film The Reader. She keeps her golden statuette in the bathroom so guests can examine the award in private.

Winslet told the British show GMTV on Monday (February 22), "People can sneakily have a little hold and put it back down again… because basically everybody wants to touch it, everybody wants to hold it and go, ‘Oh, my gosh,’ and, ‘How heavy is it?’ So I figured if I put it in there, then people can avoid the whole, ‘Where’s your Oscar?’ thing."

The 34-year old actress says she loves award ceremonies because it is a great excuse to dress up and feel beautiful.

The mother of two says, "It’s great to wear lovely dresses and to just experience those moments of dress up, especially as a mum, because you get so few moments to feel good in your own skin and wear a lovely gown."

She adds that she is really looking forward to the 82nd Academy Awards being broadcast live on Sunday, March 7.
