Katie Holmes is a designing woman

Fashionable actress and her stylist debut Holmes & Yang fall collection.

Actress Katie Holmes, Scientology’s most famous spouse, was on hand at Barneys New York to preview the Holmes & Yang fall fashion collection, with friend and stylist Jeanne Yang, reports Elle.

The two women – Holmes’ mother owned a drapery business and Yang’s was a seamstress – collaborated on an upscale clothing line for women and children, and hosted a walk-through for Barneys sales staff, discussing the features of the collection.

“If you have questions about the garments, e-mail us,” Yang told Barneys’ staff. “We want feedback from the customers.” Their primary mission is to produce top quality garments, while ensuring the comfort of customers.

The autumn 2011 trunk show featured lots of silk, including blouses, dresses, and pencil skirts. The clothes are said to be extremely well-constructed.

While quality fabrics are sourced from around the globe, the clothes are manufactured in the U.S., using New York’s Garment Center, with silk that is milled in New Jersey.

“It’s important to us,” said Holmes. “The Garment Center has lost so much money over the years, so it’s not only nice to work with those wonderful artisans, but to help contribute to [their survival].”

The collection is durable, and the actress mentioned, “I traveled with one of our long dresses this weekend and I was so proud of myself because I packed everything in a very small Valextra bag, and I rolled up our dress, shook it out when I got there, and it was ready.”

Yang described the practicality of the pencil skirt. “We’ve added seams to break up the lining in the back.” Holmes finished her sentence, “and there’s power mesh as the lining! It’s basically Spanxs without having to wear Spanx.”

Holmes & Yang fashions are available at Barneys New York and Chicago, and in Dallas and Beverly Hills.
