After months of speculation, the wedding of American singer Katy Perry and British comedian Russell Brand took place on Saturday evening (October 23) in India, reports People.
A few hours after the wedding, representatives of the couple confirmed that Brand, 35, and Perry, 25, “were pronounced Mr and Mrs Brand on Saturday, October 23.” The couple married at a luxury resort near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan, India, the same location where Brand proposed last New Year’s Eve.
“The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples’ closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the Hudson Family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India.”
The couple celebrated Friday night with a Bollywood-themed party at the luxury resort. Brand wore an Indian outfit of long baggy tunic and loose pants, while Perry donned a plain red sari. Many of the guests were in similar outfits.
For the big day, elephants were brought in for the bridal processional and traditional Indian instruments, including the sitar, the santoor, the tabla and kettle drums, could be heard playing from outside the walls of the resort.
Guests included English comedians Jonathan Ross and David Walliams, as well as Perry’s maid of honour, pop star Rihanna.
