Despite the fact that Lady Gaga has been the star of the MTV Video Music Awards in the U.S., Katy Perry has stepped in at the MTV Europe Music Awards yesterday (November 7), to pick up the award for Best Video for California Gurls.
Perry and new husband, Russell Brand, made their first post-nuptial public appearance at the star-studded ceremony in Madrid, Spain.
The California Gurls hitmaker celebrated her win with pal Rihanna, who was forced to miss the pop star’s wedding in India last month.
Lady Gaga was also a big winner – she thanked fans via satellite from Budapest, Hungary after scooping the Best Female, Best Song and Best Pop trophies.
Justin Bieber won two awards for Best New Artist and Best Male Artist.
