Kelly Rowland fesses up

Kelly Rowland admits her departure from Columbia wasn’t all that mutual.

Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland parted ways with Columbia Records last year and called it "a mutual decision."

Now the singer reveals what really went down… the record label dropped her from its roster.

Kelly Rowland’s last solo release, Ms. Kelly, came out in 2007 and sold 219,000 copies in the United States.

Perhaps Rowland wanted to get something off her chest. Maybe she had a sudden urge to come clean. Whatever the reason, she candidly told Entertainment Weekly magazine: "The records that I put out probably didn’t perform as well as maybe they wanted them to. We live in an industry where you’ve got to bring in money… I get it."

This is not to say she was alone in propagating this lie. Back in March 2009, Rob Stringer, CEO, Columbia/Epic Label Music Group released a statement, saying: "The decision for Kelly to seek other opportunities for her solo career was agreed upon mutually, and any reports to the contrary are false."

Rowland shot to fame as one of three members of Destiny’s Child, along with Beyoncé Knowles and Michelle Williams. Beyoncé, a.k.a. Sasha Fierce, a.k.a Miss B., a.k.a. Mrs. Jay-Z, is the only one among the three who has successfully transitioned into a solo career.
