Kings of Leon serve up something light

Nathan Followill talks about the group’s new album.

The Kings of Leon have been riding the wave of their last album’s success for a few years. They are now finishing up a new album which drummer Nathan Followill states will be a lot lighter than their last rock albums.

Followill told Billboard magazine: "It’s the first time we’ve ever recorded in New York City, (so) we thought we’d come out with a little darker record ’cause we’d done all our (other) records in either Nashville or L.A., where it’s a little more chilled out, not as much hustle and bustle."

Well, Followill goes on to explain that things didn’t quite turn out as expected: "And I’ll be damned if we didn’t go in there and make a fun record. It’s got songs that are beachy. It’s pretty much all across the board. We’re super excited."

The Kings of Leon have a lot to live up to following the immensely successful Only By The Night which came out in 2008. That album had no fewer than five hit singles, including Use Somebody which propelled the group into today’s rock hierarchy.

The Kings of Leon consists of three brothers and a cousin and the band has four albums under its belt so far.

The group will perform at some festivals in the States this summer and give fans a taste of the new material.
