Kiss turns its back on new technology

New album to be recorded in retro analog fashion.

American rockers Kiss have decided to take the retro approach to recording their 20th studio album, Monster, reports Ultimate Classic Rock.

The band will turn its back on new digital technologies, opting instead for old analog equipment and a stripped-down approach similar to their earlier sound.

“Technology is a seductive bitch, she will seduce you,” Gene Simmons told Mojo magazine. “You press this button, you don’t have to do anything.

“But analog is the love of your life. You can push real hard and it always gives back. For the new album, the actual recording process was 24-track tape and an old Trident board. And as many tubes as possible. You need tubes, electricity and thick wood to make that thick sound.”

The album is currently being recorded in Hollywood, with lead singer Paul Stanley co-producing with Greg Collins, as was 2009’s Sonic Boom.

During the interview, Simmons confirmed that the quartet would be back on the road to promote Monster sometime next year, most likely in the summer following the album’s springtime release date.
