Korean airline adds luxury bar to new aircraft

Korean Air partners with Absolut Vodka to create elegant ‘Celestial Bar.’

Korean Air and Absolut Vodka have partnered to create a new level of in-flight refreshments – luxury on-board bars that offer a wide assortment of drinks, reports Le Blog Luxe.

The ‘Celestial Bar’ will be featured on the airline’s new A380 which began service on June 17. Each Airbus will offer two bars in business class and another in first class, along with a complete duty-free showcase.

"With the Celestial Bars, we want to bring some of the classic jet-set glamour back, updated for an all-new generation of aircraft and style of travel," explained Anders Olsson with Absolut.

"Designing for an aircraft was a new world to us, though we have extensive experience in building bars in all imaginable kinds of environments… Everything is stripped down to the barest essentials to meet security and spatial demands. These extreme demands put pressure on us to purify our design, which elevates quality."

To keep things tasteful, there is minimal branding and no visible logos in the bars, which have been designed in the style of traditional Korean woodcarvings and shaped like a bottle of the brand’s vodka.

Korean Air expects to have five of the A380 aircraft in service by the end of the year, with another five added to the fleet by 2014.
