Audiences are used to seeing Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie at the Grammy Awards, as they did last night (Janurary 31). Jones is the long-time producer for Michael Jackson and Richie is the 1980s star who penned, with Jackson, the song We Are The World (also produced by Jones), which raised millions for famine relief in Ethiopia.

Last night, with Jones in the crowd, Richie appeared onstage to present a tribute to his late colleague.

With Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones wants to record a 2010 version of We Are the World in order raise funds to help Haiti recover from the devastating earthquake on January 12.

Yesterday’s gala was the perfect opportunity to recruit artists for the project. We learned, for example, that Lady Gaga and Bono would join the team that already includes Usher, Jason Mraz, Akon, Jennifer Hudson, Carlos Santana, Enrique Iglesias and Toni Braxton.

Neither Lady Gaga nor Bono have confirmed the news, which was reported by E! Online. But it appears to come from a credible source.
