Lady Gaga has visited the White House to discuss her plans for an anti-bullying campaign.
The 25-year-old pop superstar – who has supported measures to put an end to bullying in American high schools following the suicide of gay teenager Jamey Rodemeyer – took a trip to President Obama’s home in Washington D.C. on Tuesday (06.12.11) to see adviser Valerie Jarrett, who admits she was "deeply moved" by her story.
Valerie said: "Lady Gaga has described this cause as a personal one – she has said that as a child, she was often picked on for being different.
"I am deeply moved by the way she has used her story, and her success, to inspire young people, and shine the spotlight on important issues."
In November, Gaga set up the Born This Way Foundation, in partnership with groups including the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, to help young people to develop self confidence and well being.
The ‘Marry the Night’ singer recently won a Hero Award in recognition of her work with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community by the Trevor Project – a non-profit company that offers suicide prevention services.

"Our honourees are working with the Trevor Project to make a better today and a brighter tomorrow for youth. We are proud to honour Lady Gaga with the Trevor Hero Award."
