Lady Gaga’s triumphant homecoming

Lady Gaga’s ascension to the top of the pops has been dazzling and quick over the last two years. The tour she wanted to do with Kanye West last year, that was nixed at the last minute, may have been the best thing that could happen to the singer.

Her solo tour, launched last November 27th at Montreal’s Bell Centre, is now one of the most popular musical events on the planet. The tour’s ticket sales are among the highest for 2010 – a year when many shows are being cancelled.

Yesterday, July 6, Lady Gaga returned a heroine to her native New York, the city where she grew up and that made her the artist she is today.

No less a venue than Madison Square Garden  is now needed to hold her fans, as demand for tickets skyrocketed for the 24-year-old singer’s   three-night-stand in Manhattan.

In January, as she kicked off the first U.S. portion of her Monster Ball Tour, Lady Gaga took the stage for four nights at the legendary Radio City Music Hall, a room just under 6,000 seats–compared to Madison Square Garden’s 20,000 spots!

Visibly excited at  this homecoming show, Stefani Germanotta (Lady Gaga’s real name)  reminded the audience that a few years ago, she stood exactly where they are now, dreaming that one day, it would be her turn on stage.

At the end of Bad Romance, the concert’s grand finale, she told the crowd:"We did it, little monsters. We made it to the Monster Ball! We made it to Madison Square Garden! Thank you for making my dream come true, I love you so much."
