Land Rover Puts the LRX into Production

Today, the English brand Land Rover announced the production of the LRX prototype.

Presented at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, the LRX Concept appeared as a mid-sized sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Land Rover has just announced that it will be going through with production of the concept, which will go on sale in 2011. The LRX will contend with the Audi Q5, BMW X5 and others, like the Mercedes-Benz GLK.

During its unveiling, the LRX’s dimensions were listed as 4.35-metres long and 1.55-metres tall. At the time, Land Rover was planning to construct its new SUV on a Volvo platform, while the two brands were under Ford’s control. Since then, Land Rover has been sold to the Indian company Tata, though no technical details have been disclosed.

However, some drastic changes in design aspects are being anticipated, such as the doors, which are being revamped for production.
