According to TMZ, the attorney representing Robert Halderman, the man allegedly trying to squeeze a hefty sum of 2 million dollars from Letterman for his silence regarding the extramarital trysts of the Late Show host, has cited the recent Tiger Woods scandal as a precedent in hopes that accusations brought against his client be rejected.

Shargel mentioned reports in which some of Woods’ alleged mistresses, Rachel Uchitel, for example, were paid for their silence. Uchitel reportedly received a cool 5 million dollars, in exchange for keeping romantic text messages and phone calls with the golf legend on the hush. This came following the announcement of a press conference given by Uchitel and her attorney, Gloria Allred.

"Their behavior was capitalist, not criminal," explains the attorney, who attests that Halderman only proposed that Letterman sell him his story. Since neither Uchitel nor Allred are being prosecuted in court, he is asking why his client is being accused.

"[The] reality is that evidence of celebrity misdeeds has a significant fair market value and they are routinely suppressed through private business arrangements," said Shargel at the Supreme Court in Manhattan.

Attorney Gloria Allred is angered that the two cases are being associated, and confirms that Shargel should stick to the facts of his case rather than to compare it to another incident in which he is not privy to any details.
