Lebanon lifts Lady Gaga ban

Officials will allow sales of Born This Way.

The Lebanese government has reversed its decision to ban Lady Gaga’s new album, Born This Way, from the country, reports the Lebanon Daily Star.

"General Security had not released any statement banning the entry or distribution of this album, and [the CD] has received approval for entry and distribution in the Lebanese market," said a statement from the country’s General Security Directorate.

The statement follows a week of worldwide publicity regarding the country’s reported decision to forbid sales or radio play, having deemed Lady Gaga’s album offensive to Christianity.

Lebanese law prohibits "circulating media that diverges from public decency and morality, or is at odds with nationalistic or religious beliefs."

Due to the album’s popularity and online exposure, some citizens were quick to point out that banning physical CDs and radio play would not stop them from downloading or streaming the album anyway.
