Leighton Meester models for Missoni

Italian fashion house unveils ad campaign featuring the Gossip Girl star.

Italian fashion house Missoni has unveiled the first images from their newest ad campaign featuring Leighton Meester, reports Vogue.fr.

The Gossip Girl star was photographed by Juergen Teller in a Brit-influenced carnival setting, said to be inspired by the album cover of the Beatles’ iconic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club.

Shedding the dolled-up appearance donned by her Gossip Girl character, fashionista Blair Waldorf, Meester is seen here in very little makeup, going for a more natural look and even donning geek chic glasses in some of the images.

The new Missoni campaign is titled Family & Friends, and also features label heiress, Margherita Missoni, with her friends Tatiana Santo Domingo and Eugenie Niarchos. Margherita, 27, is the granddaughter of the company founders and daughter of current Creative Director Angela Missoni.

Fellow heiress Jasmine Guinness stars in the campaign as well. The heir to the Guiness brewing fortune poses with her infant daughter. Also donning the label for the colourful campaign is British model Jade Parfitt.

Missoni was founded in Italy in 1953, when company founders Ottavio and Rosita married and began a small knitwear workshop in Gallarete. In 1958, they premiered their first collection in Milan.

Today the label, best known for its colourful knitwear, is headquartered in Milan, and largely run by the couple’s three children.
