The lack of lemons is so low on a global scale that producers don’t have enough to even make juice.
The lemon shortage, which has resulted in a considerable price hike, was primarily a result of a frost period in California and windy, dry temperatures in Spain.
Sunkist, one of the major citrus producers, confirmed that lemon production had plummeted to nearly 25% this year. Nearly all lemons are sold fresh, leaving no supply available for processing.
Several Canadian supermarkets are also short on lemon juice at the moment.
