Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) has agreed to direct Gears of War, a film adapted from a Microsoft video game, according to Variety.
Wiseman will work on the screenplay with Chris Morgan (Wanted, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift).
Gears of War is a story that takes place in a destructed world invaded by extraterrestrials known as the Locusts. A small team of elite soldiers face the enemy and take back the planet Sera and save its human inhabitants.
New Line acquired the rights to the video game last year.
Gears of War is Microsoft’s second best-selling video game after Halo. Gears of War was released in 2006 and sold more than 3 million copies.
