Former Beatles Paul McCartnery and the late John Lennon almost made a reunion appearance on Saturday Night Live during the mid-1970s, reports the Daily Express.

According to McCartney, he was visiting Lennon in New York City when his former bandmate suggested they take producer Lorne Michaels up on a previous offer to appear on the show.

The original offer had been extended to all four of the Fab Four and would have paid them $3,050 to perform three numbers during the popular late-night comedy show.

"[Lennon] said, ‘We should go down, just you and me… We’ll say, ‘There’s only two of us, we’ll make half the money…’ And for a second…" McCartney revealed during an interview with Access Hollywood.

Ultimately the two musicians decided it would be too much bother and the idea fell through.

"It would have been work and we were having a night off and so we elected to not go," explained McCartney. "It was a nice idea. We nearly did it."
