Lil Wayne still free

Lil Wayne’s sentencing was postponed due to dental surgery.

Controversial rapper Lil Wayne was supposed to start a one-year prison sentence this week after pleading guilty to carrying an illegal gun in 2007. Instead, he will remain free for a while longer.

Lil Wayne has to have dental surgery so his sentence was postponed until March 2 to allow him to undergo the procedure. His dentist was out of the country and could not do it before.

Wayne’s new album, Rebirth, was released and became the top selling download on iTunes last week. However, a disappointing 176,000 copies of this new album have been sold in music stores.

The album’s release was delayed several times and 500 copies were accidentally leaked by Amazon. One of those copies ended up online and was repeatedly downloaded. This made the release less exclusive than planned.

Lil Wayne is also due in court at the end of March on separate felony drug possession and weapons charges in Arizona.

That case stems from an arrest in 2008 when authorities said they found cocaine, ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus.
