British singer Lily Allen and her sister Sarah Owen launched their own ready-to-wear line of vintage-inspired clothing, Lucy in Disguise, at London department store Harvey Nichols on Wednesday night (May 25), reports Coco Perez.
The line is based upon their vintage clothing shop of the same name, which the two sisters operate in the trendy London neighborhood of Soho. The 18-piece debut collection draws inspiration from their own wardrobes as well as some of their favorite finds in the secondhand shops.
Although creating their own clothing wasn’t the original idea, the sisters came up with the plan after finding so many near-misses when shopping around for their store.
"Through months of buying for the shop, we came across so many ‘if-only’ pieces," Allen told Vogue.
"If only this was in a nicer material, or if only this had an embellishment here. We saw so many things that were nearly on the money, and we thought that with a bit of updating and tweaking, we could create the perfect vintage-inspired outfit. That, and we came across some things that were so brilliant, it was a shame to have only one of them in one size."
The new and old will coexist in the Soho store, where the LID collection will go on sale alongside the vintage finds that have been the establishment’s mainstay.
"They’re completely linked – you can’t have one without the other," noted Owen.
