Link Between Alcohol and Hospitalisation

Alcohol consumption amoung men appears to be directly linked to the rate of hospitalisation.

A research study over the last 28 years on over 6 000 men aged between 35 and 64 years old demonstrated an association between alcohol consumption and hospitalisation.

Patients who drank 22 alcoholic beverages per week increased their risk of hospitalisation by 20% compared to subjects who did not drink.

According the study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, even eight glasses of alcohol could increase the risk of hospitalisation and also prolong the patient’s stay in the hospital.

Some of the reasons for hospitalisation included strokes, breathing difficulties and heart disease.
