Lionsgate in talks for Hillary Clinton biopic Rodham

Lionsgate is in early negotiations to make ‘Rodham’, which will focus on Hillary Clinton’s formative years in politics.

Lionsgate is in talks to make Hillary Clinton biopic ‘Rodham’.

The studio is interested in the rights to Temple Hill and The Arlook Group’s film about the former First Lady of the United States, New York senator and Secretary of State, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

However, sources have warned that discussions are in very early stages and a deal may not work out.

‘The Spectacular Now’ director James Ponsoldt has signed on to helm the drama, based on a script written by Young-Il Kim.

The film centres around Clinton’s formative years as a young lawyer on the committee involved in President Richard Nixon’s impeachment, as well as her unresolved feelings for future president and husband Bill Clinton.

Earlier in the summer, Ponsoldt met with Carey Mulligan to discuss the actress taking on the lead in the movie.

While Mulligan is considered the favourite for the role, other actresses are still being mulled over for the independent drama, including Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon and Amanda Seyfried.

‘Rodham’ is being lined up for a 2016 release in order to coincide with the next US presidential election, in which Clinton could be a candidate.
