Lionsgate To Work With Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry will be adapting the play For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf into film.

Lionsgate announced that they have acquired the film rights to the 1975 play.

The studio has called upon Tyler Perry (Meet the Browns, House of Payne) to write, direct, and produce the project.  The film will be the first project for Perry’s production company, 34th Street Films.

The story revolves around a series of 20 poems that tell stories of love, abandonment, domestic violence and other issues that women of colour face.

Filming is set to begin in Atlanta in November, while Lionsgate plans to release the movie next year.

In the meantime, Perry’s films I Can Do Bad All By Myself and Why Did I Get Married Too? will be released on September 11 and April 2, 2010, respectively.
