Dido, Annie Lennox and Travis will be the main stars at the event. Edinburgh joins London, Paris, Philadelphia, Berline and Rome as hosts for the simultaneous concerts on July 2.
The Live 8 concerts have been scheduled to take place just before the G8 Summit, which will begin on July 8 in Gleneagles, Scotland.
Another city, Ottawa, Canada, may also be added to the line up.
