According to a report by PerezHilton.com, Hurley and her husband, Arun Nayar, were paying their Indian maid, Violet d’Souza, only $2 per hour. The rate is well below the minimum wage in London, which is $8.17 per hour.
Violet, 31, was also working nearly 70 hours each week, sometimes with days beginning at 7:30 in the morning, and ending at 3:00 the following morning.
The maid was set to take her case to court, but Hurley, whose fortune is estimated to be worth $20 million, settled the case out of court. According to documents, d’Souza was planning to claim, "breach of contract, failure to supply a written statement of terms, race discrimination and unfair dismissal."
