Logan Mailloux takes (partial) blame for defensive shortcomings

Logan Mailloux is a polarizing prospect. Obviously, his past works against him, but the fact that he’s a player who doesn’t exactly take care of his defense is also an aspect to consider.

In London, in junior, we could see that sometimes he didn’t fold up totally effectively. But because he helped his club score – and win – more often than not, it was easier to get by.

But now Logan Mailloux is in the pros and the Rocket aren’t off to a great start. As a result, the spotlight is on him a little more under the circumstances.

And let’s just say it’s not all good news.

He still has a long way to go.

This quote comes from Jean-François Houle. The Laval Rocket driver made such comments about Logan Mailloux not because he’s not doing anything right, but because he has things to work on.

RDS journalist Nicolas Landry reports.

The Rocket coach loves the potential of Mailloux and the other youngsters, but he doesn’t like to see his club so unaccountable for its efforts during games.

It’s to be expected with a young club, but still: Houle believes that youth can’t excuse everything.

That’s what it means to have a young team in training. So, yes, it’s rock and roll , and it’s going to be for a while yet. – Jean-François Houle

Right now, Mailloux’s -9 differential, with two points (two goals) in seven games, speaks volumes. I know differential isn’t the ultimate statistic, but when you’ve got the club’s worst, it’s a sign.

The defender knows he’s not perfect. He’s willing to take some of the blame, but he also knows he’s not 100% to blame either, since he knows he’s not the only one who deserves to be criticized.

If you look at these goals more closely, sometimes it’s my fault, sometimes it’s not. – Logan Mailloux

According to data compiled by Sportlogiq, Mailloux has been unlucky in some respects. He knows, however, that he has to work hard in the NHL to achieve his goals.

He can’t deny it, of course.

When the Canadiens’ training camp ended, we learned that he was in the CH’s plans for this season. But for that to happen, he’ll have to improve his game without the puck.

After all, doesn’t Martin St-Louis say that most field hockey is played without the puck?

In brief

– Really?

– Mike Matheson earns praise from his former NCAA head coach.

– It’s a nice gesture.

– Well done.

– It’s not all bad news.
