Long-lost duet by two legends

Johnny Cash and Ray Charles made beautiful music together 29 years ago.

A 29-year old song recorded by Ray Charles and Johnny Cash will finally see the light of day. It is part of a new album about to be released by the legendary blind pianist.

Charles passed away in 2004 and Cash in 2003. The track Why Me, Lord?, written by Kris Kristofferson, was recorded by the two icons in a Nashville studio in 1981.

For reasons unexplained, the song was supposed to appear on a Ray Charles album for CBS Records but was dropped and never released.

Now, nearly three decades later, the song is one of 10 tracks on a new album, Rare Genius: The Undiscovered Masters. The album will be released on October 29 and Why Me, Lord? is the last song.

The tracklisting of Rare Genius: The Undiscovered Masters is as follows:

1. Love’s Gonna Bite You Back
2. It Hurts To Be in Love
3. Wheel of Fortune
4. I’m Gonna Keep on Singin’
5. There’ll Be Some Changes Made
6. Isn’t It Wonderful
7. I Don’t Want No One But You
8. A Little Bitty Tear
9. She’s Gone
10. Why Me, Lord?
