Louis Vuitton to launch fragrance

French company hires famed perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud.

Luxury brand Louis Vuitton is rumored to be branching out into fragrances, after hiring perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud to presumably work on a branded perfume for the company, reports WWD.

Cavallier-Belletrud – who will leave his current role at Swiss fragrances supplier Firmenich to begin work with the French brand in January – has lent his talents to several other iconic fragrances such as Stella by Stella McCartney, Dior Addict, Poeme by Lancome, Jean Paul Gaultier Classic, Cinema by Yves Saint Laurent and L’Eau d’Issey, and brings with him an extensive pedigree with a family of perfumers going back three generations now.

Although plans for a new fragrance have not yet been confirmed by the company, creative director Marc Jacobs – no stranger to fragrance, having already developed Lola, Daisy and Bang under his eponymous label – previously hinted that a perfume might be in the works: "There’s no Vuitton Beaute. At this moment, there is no fragrance although we’re working on that," he revealed in June.

According to sources, the French fashion house is currently looking into rare and exotic flowers, but there are very few details about the fragrance itself; it is not yet known whether it will be floral, fruity or musk.
