M.I.A. lays it all out

Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A. will release her highly anticipated third album this summer.

M.I.A. is without a doubt one of the most influential artists of the new generation. She is launching her third album this summer and just released the tracklist.

10 songs appear on the new release. The first single off the new album, Born Free, shows M.I.A. has picked up right where she left off, in her role as a provocative, fascinating and avant-garde singer.

The Born Free video was released April 27 on the singer’s website and could be viewed on YouTube. It was removed yesterday (April 27) from the site in some countries, and given an age restriction in some other countries due to its violent content. The nine-minute clip shows a police crackdown.

The new album was produced by Rusko. He says, "It sounds like a rock band trying to play dubstep songs. The whole idea of the record was to freak people out. It’s crazy. It’s like mad distorted and hectic."

She went on Twitter to announce that she wants fans to choose the name of the new album. She wrote, "MIA TRACKLIST FOR LP COMING JUNE "YET UNTITLED" OPEN TO SUGGESTION AT @_M_I_A_ #miap4k"

She had worldwide success with her album Paper Planes. It was notably used in the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. M.I.A., daughter of an activist, is considered one of the spokespeople of her generation.

The 10 songs on her next album are:

1. The Message
2. Born Free
3. Meds And Feds
4. Lovealot
5. Tequila
6. It Is What It Is
7. XXXO
