M.I.A. To Release New Album

M.I.A. is putting the final touches on her follow-up disc to Kala.

The singer first shot to fame in the early 2000s with the song Paper Planes, which was featured in the film Slumdog Millionaire.  The 2007 release, Kala, found its place on several charts, and now fans are awaiting new material from M.I.A.

The English singer, whose parents are from Sri Lanka, has managed to carve a place for herself by creating an international style that incorporates cultural elements from her own background.  Her dance tunes also feature rap elements.

For the next album, M.I.A. wanted to plant herself in one spot during the creative process. “The last album, I didn’t actually sit anywhere long enough for it to really be in my life and to really think about it," she explained to Rolling Stone magazine.

M.I.A. gave birth to her first child, a son named Ikhyd Arular Edgar Bronfman, in 2009 just days after performing at the Grammys.
