Madonna didn’t sing for Haiti?

According to rumours, Madonna did not really sing at the Hope for Haiti Now telethon.

The album from the Hope for Haiti Now telethon organized last Friday (January 22) by George Clooney is made up of songs performed during the benefit concert. It has had record success so far. It sold 171,000 copies last week in the U.S. and Canada.

This is the first time that an album sold only online has made it to the Billboard 200.

Fans who buy the album pick up the music and also a memory of this uniqiue and touching event.

However, it seems that one of the evening’s performances was not as unique or memorable as first appeared. According to the Globe and Mail, music industry sources reveal that Madonna lip-synched part of her performance of Like A Prayer.

Big names have quickly come to her defence. Styx guitarist Tommy Shaw says, “My gut says Madonna showed up and sang it live.” Peter Frampton adds, “I saw it live and could tell she was singing.”

Sound technicians, however, think that Madonna was singing along with a pre-recorded vocal track, with an engineer opening a gate to the pre-recorded tape only when she sang.

Many other celebrities took part in the benefit concert like Justin Timberlake, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Bono, Rihanna and Shakira.
