According to Madonna’s rep, Liz Rosenberg, the rumour that the star was on the verge of adopting Mercy James, 3, from Malawi, is completely false, reported UsMagazine.com.
Rosenberg stated, "Madonna has not made an attempt to adopt this baby earlier this year or now."
Rosenberg also told CelebTV.com, "There is no truth to this rumor. It’s an old one – wasn’t true then or now. Madonna is starting her tour in a week."
Recently, the Malawi’s Minister of Adoption, Penstone Kilembe, stated, "Madonna’s representatives have been visiting the girl. The adoption is now advanced – all the government is waiting for is Madonna to forward the petition of adoption formalities. Then Mercy will be able to leave the country for a new life."
The tabloid, The Sun, claimed that the 49-year-old singer has been trying to adopt Mercy James for the last year, but the proceedings had been brought to a halt when Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie started having difficulties.
