Even in her fifties, the Queen of Pop can still cause a fuss. She recently started a raucous with the Catholic church when she dedicated her song, Like a Virgin, to Pope Benoît XVI during a concert in Rome this past Saturday (September 6).
"I dedicate this song to the Pope because I’m a child of God. All of you are also children of God," declared Madonna, who is now a staunch Kabbalah follower.
The performance was described as "disrespectful" by representatives of the Catholic church. According to the Italian press, the gesture the songstress made was considered a "surprising provocation."
It wasn’t the first time for the American singer to have instigated religious controversy. In 2006, when she was in Italy’s capitol, she was criticised for reproducing a crucifixion scene at her show.
