Madonna takes a music break

Madonna is spending all her time on a new film project.

Madonna is so busy developing her new film, W.E., that she has abandoned her music career. Orange News reports the star has neither the time nor the energy to sing.

The pop star is getting ready to direct the drama she co-wrote when shooting begins this summer. She says that this project has taken over her professional life.

Madonna reveals: "I’ve been writing it for the last two and a half years, to tell you the truth. It’s been kind of an obsession of mine."

She explains that she started writing this new project when she finished filming Filth and Wisdom in 2008. That marked her directing debut.

The Queen of Pop says she is too busy to make time for music. She shares: "I don’t have a record deal right now with anybody. I don’t know how I’m going to get my music out the next time I make a record. I’m going to have to reinvent the wheel. I haven’t really been focused as much as I should be on the music part of my career, because this movie has just consumed every inch of me."

Besides working on the film, Madonna also has four children.

W.E. is a historical film depicting the events that led to King Edward VIII of England abdicating the throne in 1936 after a short reign. The king wanted to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcée. The story caused a real scandal at the time. Edward VIII died in May 1972 at the age of 77.
