Madonna to Open the Grammy Awards

American singer Madonna and virtual group the Gorillaz will collaborate for the opening number at the 48th annual Grammy Awards.

Madonna, a five-time Grammy winner, will perform with the rock group, which will be presented in 3-D animation on a screen behind her.  It is unknown what song they will perform.

There are many collaborations planned for the evening, including U2 and Mary J. Blige, Faith Hill and Keith Urban, Christina Aguilera and Herbie Hancock, Jamie Foxx and Kanye West, Mariah Carey and Kezekiah Walker & Love Fellowship Choir.

Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Sugarland, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry (Aerosmith), will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas), Joss Stone, John Legend, Maroon 5, Robert Randolph and Devin Lima will all perform.  There is also a tribute being planned to honour Sly & the Family Stone.

As for the awards, Mariah Carey, John Legend and Kanye West are dominating the nominations, each receiving 8 in various categories.  The Grammy Awards will be presented on February 8.
