Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal will star in the romantic comedy Hysteria, according to Variety.
Hysteria, which will be directed by Tanya Wexler (Ball In The House), traces the history of the vibrator from its invention England during the Victorian era. Gyllenhaal will star opposite Rupert Everett, Hugh Dancy and Jonathan Pryce.
Dancy and Pryce play two Victorian doctors who invent the vibrator while trying to develop a device to help female patients suffering from "hysteria", a Victorian disease whose symptoms included crying jags and uncontrolled anger.
Shooting begins in October in London and Luxembourg.
Maggie Gyllenhaal also appears in Nanny McPhee Returns, which opens today. She was recently seen as Jeff Bridges’ love interest in the Oscar-nominated indie Crazy Heart.
