Lane Hutson has signed a long-term contract with the Canadiens. The defenseman, who is in the final year of his NHL entry-level contract, has signed an eight-year pact that will expire in 2034.Hutson is in town to stay… even if that was never really in doubt. And clearly, you can sense that the defenseman is really, really happy that it’s settled. He got a dose of love from his teammates at practice, and it made his coach happy. And Hutson, in the final minutes, used his Instagram account to highlight the good news: he posted a montage of his highlights (but also of the club and its fans in general), and simply put a house emoji. It says a lot about how happy he is to be in town to stay

[content-ads]You can tell that for Hutson, home is Montreal… and he’s happy to be there for the next nine years. After all, his contract won’t expire until he’s 30, which means he’ll be spending his entire twenties in the city.Unless there’s a deal in the meantime, of course… but we agree that’s a long way off.Lane’s little brother, Cole Hutson, also highlighted his brother’s new contract… but he also took the opportunity to give Ivan Demidov some love in the process.

In reality,Zachary Bolduc is likely to get a new contract before Demidov, given that the Québécois will need a pact for the next campaign, which is not the case for Demidov. But we also know that the young Russian will sooner or later follow Hutson’s lead and go for his big contract, and once he does, the club will really have almost its entire core under long-term contract. The only ones left will be Jacob Fowler, Michael Hage and David Reinbacher… but that won’t be for a few years yet.[spacer title=’Overtime’]- Great news for the Québécois… but also for my colleague Charles-Alexis Legault Brisebois, hehe.

– Enjoy.

– Big start for Mariners,
