Malaysians Hope for Rain

A Malaysian hotel puts you up for free if it rains.

A hotel in Malaysia has come up with an innovative way to attract new business.

The Tanjong Jara hotel, on the country’s east coast, has launched a new promotion to boost sales during Malaysia’s rainy season (November to February). It’s called Everyone Loves the Rain. Clients will get one night’s stay for free if more than 3 centimetres of rain falls in that area that day.

To be eligible for the promotion, a client must book at least three days and two nights at the hotel’s rate of about $500 per person, double occupancy. This offer will target local travelers who haven’t felt the squeeze of difficult economic times.

Due to recent, heavy precipitation received in the area, the region’s meteorological authorities predict flooding. The rain is measured from 7am to 7pm every day.

This unique promotion will end on February 28, 2010 at the close of the area’s annual rainy season.
